The When
When are we creative?
As children, we exercise many, many creative tendencies. Our first natural approach to thinking is open to possibilities, imaginative, attracted to fantasy, and often unaware of limitations. For some of us, somewhere along the way, reality begins to outweigh imagination. Others retain and develop tendencies that create a tension between experience and imagination, between improbability and possibility. Some believe our golden years are potentially a wellspring of creativity.
At times, it’s an uphill battle to fend off the forces in our culture and our society that stifle the natural creativity within us all. Yet, no matter where we are, how old we are or who is around us, we can always learn to practice deliberate creativity, and to discover within ourselves the ways in which organic, intuitive creativity survives.
